Diagnostic Radiology

The benchmark for any Radiology Department is staffed 24 hours a day 365 days per year providing coverage and interpretation for all of your diagnostic imaging needs. Services provided include digital radiography for your radiographic needs. This enables the ordering physician to view high quality diagnostic images on a computer. In addition DEXA scanning is offered which measures calcium in the bones for the diagnosis of osteoporosis.

Nuclear Medicine

This department is staffed with personnel who are on the leading edge of molecular imaging with extensive experience in teaching and research. In addition to the standard exams Grady Memorial Hospital offers service in the more specialized areas such as Myo-Cardial Perfusion studies and a emerging technology called fusion imaging ( combining the imaging from other modalities such as CT, resulting in a 3D image), giving the radiologist an additional diagnostic tool.

Cat Scan

CT Scans create pictures (slices) of parts of your body enabling the radiologist to view three-dimensional images for diagnostic purposes. Staffed with nationally registered technologists our CT department not only provides you with all of the standard exams but also offers Calcium Scoring heart exams. (Calcium scoring does not need a physician order to schedule. To schedule an appointment call (405) 779-2188). This department also provides immediate access to performing and interpreting your emergency and stat exams 24 hours a day resulting in prompt interpretation of reports for your treatment needs. This modality working
in conjunction with the Emergency Room has established a stroke protocol criteria resulting in an even quicker method of interpretation of emergency stroke exams.

Ultra Sound

Ultrasound also referred to as sonography involves exposing various parts of the body to high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of the internal images of the body. Ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation (as used in x-rays). Ultrasound images are captured in real time which shows both the structure and movement of the body's internal organs as well as blood flowing through the vessels. Grady Memorial Hospital provides a full service ultra-sound department staffed with nationally registered technologists. We are committed to providing all of your ultra-sound needs, including but not limited to abdominal studies, echo exams (heart), and 4D imaging obstetrics.

MRI

MRI is a relatively new technology that provides detailed images of different structures of the body. In practice MRI is used to distinguish pathologic tissue from normal tissue. Grady Memorial Hospital also offers magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) which is used to generate images of arteries in order to evaluate them for stenosis (narrowing) or aneurysms (dilations) which may be at risk for rupturing. One of the advantages of MRI is that it uses non-ionizing radiation in the radio frequency range. We offer a short bore gantry enabling
patients to be more comfortable during the exam by minimizing the possible effects of claustrophobia.

Mammography

Mammography is an x-ray of breast tissue used in the diagnosis and detection of breast cancer. Grady Memorial Hospital is proud to provide the only state of the art nationally certified digital mammography center in Grady County. This digital technology provides greater detail of the diagnostic image and has the added benefit of less radiation exposure to the patient. This department is also active in community educational efforts through utilizing our nationally certified breast exam educator as an educational resource for schools, churches, civic groups and the individual patient when they arrive for their appointment.

The American Cancer Society recommends that mammography screening become a part of women's regular health care. Women over the age of 40 should conduct a monthly breast exam. This educational service is part of our commitment to excellence to our patients. It is not necessary to have a physicians order to schedule a screening mammogram. We offer extended hours on Tuesdays to accommodate our patient's busy schedules. To schedule an appointment call (405) 779-2188.
